Vienna Travel Essentials: What You Shouldn't Leave Home Without

Are you planning a trip to Vienna and wondering what to pack to make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible?

3 Day Sightseeing with the Vienna Pass

How to save time and money when visiting Vienna. The Vienna Pass helps you make the most out of your trip to Vienna.

    • Suitcase
Opt for a small or mid-sized suitcase with wheels for easy maneuvering, especially if you plan to use public transport. Personally, I like to use the suitcases from TITAN, which is a German brand, since the price and quality is really good. Learn more

    • Air Tags
These handy devices can help track your suitcase, preventing unexpected luggage mishaps. -It actually was very helpful on my last journey to Canada, where my suitcase was lost. Get your own Air Tag!

    • Small Backpack
Ideal for your daytime adventures, a compact backpack can carry your essentials while exploring. I love my small grey backpack with white polka dots from Kaukoo.

    • Extra Purse
Keep a separate purse for Euros to avoid currency mix-ups.

    • Collapsible Shopping Bag
Vienna has eco-friendly shopping practices, and many stores charge for bags. Having a reusable shopping bag on hand is eco-friendly as well as cost-effective. If you don’t already have one, you can also buy it in Vienna, since almost every shop offers them.

  • Vienna experiences a typical continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters. Pack accordingly:

    • Weather-appropriate clothing
Be prepared for temperature variations, with light clothing for summer and warm layers for winter. Even in summer, bring a pullover and a light jacket for cooler evenings.

    • Umbrella
Rain can surprise you throughout the year, so an umbrella is a year-round essential. Personally I love to use my pink umbrella, with which my guest can spot me easily in big crowds :) But of course almost any umbrella will do!

    • Hat/Cap
Many guests are surprised, how strong the sun is in summe. Protect yourself from the strong summer sun, especially when visiting places with limited shade, like Schönbrunn or the city center.

    • Sunscreen
If you have a preferred sunscreen brand, bring it along, although you can purchase sunscreen in Vienna. I prefer the sunscreen from la roche posay, since it is super lightweight and reliable.

    • Scarf
For cooler evenings or if you're sensitive to temperature changes, like myself :)

    • Sunglasses
A must, especially during the sunny summer months.

  • Adapter
Austria uses Schuko/Type F sockets. But you might want to purchase a multi-variant adapter which is handy for use in other countries aswell.

    Power Bank
My phone always rund out of battery. If yours is the same, take a power bank with you, so you don't run out of battery while exploring Vienna. Get your own power bank.

    VPN
To enhance the safety of using public Wi-Fi hotspots in the city.

    • Water Bottle
As already described in my "Vienna for free", Vienna tap water is excellent. Don’t waste your money on buying bottled water and use a refillable water bottle. I like the air up bottles, which flavours water through scent. But of course, any reusable bottle will do.

    • Straw
Many Austrian restaurants have banned straws, so bring a reusable one if you prefer using straws.

  • Earplugs
If you're sensitive to noise, these can help ensure a good night's sleep.

    Eye Mask
    Also, great for better sleep!

    Neck Cushion
If you have a long flight or plan to travel longer distances within Europe.

    • My Audioguide

With this guide you will do a walking tour through Vienna’s beautiful city center and exploring 23 highlights such as the Hofburg palace aswell as St. Stephen's cathedral. Consider having a guide book like the Lonely Planet for Vienna for an insightful overview of what to explore in the city.
