Naschmarkt Terrace Vienna: Free View Over the Naschmarkt

The Naschmarkt terrace in Vienna is a free viewpoint located above the market hall. From here, you get a quick overview of the Naschmarkt and can take a short break with a nice view.

The terrace is still a bit of a hidden spot. If you visit Vienna in spring or on a sunny weekend, it’s definitely worth a short stop.

👉 This is what the terrace looks like:

What to expect

The terrace sits elevated above the Naschmarkt and gives you a great view of the busy market below. While people are walking between food stalls and cafés, you can step back and take a short break up here.

If you want to explore the Naschmarkt itself, you’ll find my Food Guide with selected tips for restaurants, cafés, and snacks around the market.

Spring is a particularly nice time to visit: flowers, sunshine, and locals just enjoying the space. You can find more free tips for Vienna in my article "Free things to do in Vienna".

Why this spot is worth it

  • Free to access

  • Nice view over the Naschmarkt and the elegant Art Nouveau buildings nearby

  • Perfect for a short break

  • Great for people watching

It’s not a classic viewpoint, but rather a relaxed spot you can easily include in a walk – for example as part of a 1, 2 or 3 day Vienna itinerary.

How to get there

The Naschmarkt terrace is located on top of the market hall and is easy to access. The entrance is via the market hall and can be reached from outside.

Getting there: The terrace is right next to the Subway Station “Kettenbrückengasse” (Linie U4). From there, it’s just a short walk to the market hall and the entrance.

From the terrace, you also get a great view of Otto Wagner’s famous buildings along Wienzeile, especially the Majolikahaus and the Medallionhaus. Otto Wagner was one of Vienna’s most important architects around 1900 and a key figure of Art Nouveau.

When to visit

Saturdays are the busiest, when the Naschmarkt is at its liveliest. If you prefer it quieter, come during the week or earlier in the day.
